Family First
Upon my leukemia diagnosis, the first words out of my mouth were "I have three kids to raise, I am not going anywhere."
Parenthood has been a dream to me. Each of our three children are perfection. I would not change a thing about them. They bring me so much happiness. William is amazing, gentle, smart and thoughtful. Sam is energetic, creative and her enthusiasm is infectious. Mitch is now six foot one and still my baby. He is smart, funny and so very happy. A couple of years ago while the kids were at school, I finally had enough hair to have it cut and colored at a hairstylist. This is about the time that Mitch came home. He saw me, smiled and said, "Mom, you are beautiful”. It then occurred to me that he was not old enough to remember me looking “normal”. I tried very hard to allow myself to only be sick during the day while they were at school. Only a mom will understand that comment. On weekends and in the evenings, when I was not in the hospital, I was fine, no matter how I was.
My husband Mark has been my constant caring companion and loving husband. As my caregiver, he stood by me and weathered the storm. He is my friend and partner in all of life's adventures.
